Working With Us
We presently have one crew vacancy which we are looking to fill and one part time office vacancy. We are also looking for a couple of cleaners at the Banavie end for the barges and a minibus driver. Further information is available below.
The cook has responsibility for provisioning and catering for up to 18 people on board. The food is of a high standard with a set menu for each meal. The cook is also the ‘domestic manager’ and plays a crucial role in the smooth running of the boat. They are sometimes assisted by a voluntary crew member who can join us for a week and help the cook for just half of each day. We have gained a good reputation for excellent food and the guests often remark on this in feedback and thank you letters, so we need someone to continue this tradition. The job is a full-time seasonal position from the start of April to October 2020.
The Bookings Administrator role will be to take enquiries and process bookings by telephone, e-mail and web-based bookings systems. They will be working alongside and supporting the work of our office team of Bookings Manager, Financial Administrator and Marketing Manager. They will also be in contact with and supporting the Managing Director and the operational crew on the barges.
At the end of our cruises on a Friday and an occasional Tuesday we offer a transfer service that our guests can book to return them to their start point. We are looking for a minibus driver between 23 and 69 years old with a full licence for at least 2 years. A clean driving licence is essential, and previous experience of driving with passengers would be preferred but is not essential. The applicant must have a pleasant manner and be well presented (Appropriate clothing will be provided). An appreciation of the Great Glen would be an advantage. Induction will be given in all aspects of the work as required.
The minibus needs to be at Ros Crana ready to depart at 11:00, and for our other barge Fingal, departures are at 13:00. The journey takes about 2 hours each way. The season runs between April and October every year but we don’t necessarily have guests booking the return transport every week, so the minibus isn’t always needed.
We have two vacancies for our “changeover” day at Banavie on a Friday. The main work is the servicing of bedrooms, ensuite toilet/showers and the cleaning of public areas. This includes dusting, wiping, mopping, vacuuming, general cleaning, bed-making, and re-stocking of toiletry and cleaning items. Previous experience of cleaning in an accommodation establishment would be preferred but not essential. Training and induction will be given in all aspects of the work as required.
Located at the top lock of Neptune’s staircase in Banavie the barges take a week to traverse the Great Glen from Banavie to Inverness, one going in each direction. This means the changeover at Banavie alternates with a different barge each week. There will also be one Friday where you would be required to clean at Corpach following our Loch Linnhe Wildlife cruise. The season runs between April and October.
